Reforest the Future Event

Young native trees regrowing across a Hawaiian pasture with forested volcanic cliffs behind

Event details

Field Immersion: Hawaiʻi

Dates:
October 13–15, 2026
Location:
Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi

When a forest comes back, life returns with it: native species, watersheds, livelihoods, and the communities whose futures are tied to the land.

This October we’re inviting a select group to spend two and a half days on the island where Terraformation’s model began. Step inside a seed bank. Walk the land with the people who tend it. See restoration at every stage: cleared land, first plantings, and forest taking hold.

Join our team on the ground to experience Hawai‘i as our team knows it, with access you won’t find on any itinerary. Attendees will connect with Hawai‘i’s roots, our people, and see firsthand how Terraformation's work is helping scale reforestation for the future.

About Terraformation

From Hawaiʻi to the world

01

Our mission

Terraformation was founded in Hawaiʻi by Yishan Wong with an ambitious mission: to restore degraded land into thriving ecosystems that benefit climate, biodiversity and human well-being.

02

Terraformation 2.0

Six years later, that vision has taken Terraformation from Hawai‘i to communities around the world—and deepened our understanding of how to restore native forests at scale. Our next chapter unites innovation, capacity building, landscape restoration, and a global movement to accelerate high-integrity reforestation.

Preliminary Agenda

We’re convening a group of forest leaders: project developers with boots on the ground, funders deploying capital, corporate partners with nature commitments, and community advisors whose knowledge and land tenure make restoration possible in the first place.

  • Project developers
  • Funders
  • Corporate partners
  • Community leaders

ABOUT THE ITINERARY

The itinerary includes excursions to Terraformation project sites across Hawai‘i Island, plus workshops and meetings with community leaders to advance honest conversations about what enables or stalls the protection of biodiverse ecosystems.

  2. A nursery technician inspecting a native seedling among trays of young plants
  3. Shade-covered nursery beds of native seedlings being misted with water
